Vice chairman of Ghaziabad development authority MR. santosh kumar said that DMRC board approved extension of Ghaziabad metro to 99.71 km and its estimated cost approximate 1.770 crore. Ghaziabad development authority share 50% of the total cost of metro project extension in Ghaziabad. Remaining amount will bear by the other agencies like, nagar nigam, avas vikas and UPSIDC. All this agencies work for development, so they were happy to pay the cost. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has washed its hands off the deficiencies in implementation of Airport Metro Express line saying it was busy getting clearances for land and liasioning for the project for early completion. It told the urban development ministry that DMRC didn’t have enough staff to carry out inspection of the structure and other works, sources said.
DMRC gave its response to the UD ministry on Tuesday, a day before the DMRC board took up the issue of fixing responsibility on Metro officials who have been named by an inquiry committee. Those named in the investigation report include DMRC managing director Mangu Singh. Sources said after deliberations, the board decided to set up a sub-committee to look into the issue.
Government sources said DMRC has largely passed the blame of lack of supervision on its airport line consultant (ALC). The Metro said its officials never inspected the sites and went by what the ALC put before them. “DMRC has said that it accepted the details submitted by the consultant. They have also said that the concessionaire of the project DAMEPL should have identified the deficiencies in the bearings and structure so that preventive measures could have been taken to avoid closure of the line,” said a government official.
He added that the investigating committee set up by the UD ministry had found that not a single of the 2,550 faulty bearings were fixed as per the approved drawings. “Had the DMRC checked one bearing, the problem could have been fixed early,” the official added.
Delhi Metro today said its commuters using smartphones can get to know fares and train timings with the help of a new mobile application that can be downloaded from its web site.
“The application will provide information about nearest metro station, fare, timings of last and first train at stations, travel time, route information, metro map and parking availability on the station premises,” Delhi Metro managing director Mangu Singh said.
The mobile application can be downloaded by commuters who have iPhone and android phone. The users can also find tourist spots near metro stations.
Delhi Metro services were again hit on Tuesday, the second time in the last five days on the Dwarka Sec 21 to Noida City Centre Blue line due to “technical” problems.
“Due to technical problem between Karol Bagh and R K Ashram stations, train services are being run in 3 loops on Line 3,” a DMRC official said.
Trains between Karol Bagh to Dwarka-21 and Barakhamba to Noida/Vaishali are being run on short loop while trains between Karol Bagh and Barakhamba stations are run on single line since 12:40pm.
“It is not known by when the problem will be sorted, he said, adding hundreds of passengers were delayed due to the problem.
On August 16, trains on the Blue line-Dwarka sec 21 to Noida city centre/Vaishali were disrupted due to over head electrification problems.
A woman allegedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping in front of a metro train at Janakpuri West Metro station in Delhi on Monday.
According to the police, the 30-year-old woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was left critically injured after she jumped in front of the metro at around 7:29 pm at Janakpuri West metro station’s track.
“The driver of the train applied emergency brake as soon as he saw her jumping on the track. She was stuck in the metro engine in the incident. She was rescued by 8:05 pm and rushed to Mata Chanan Devi hospital where her condition is stated to be critical,” said a Metro official.
Train services were delayed on the Dwarka-Noida city centre route due to the incident.
“Due to emergency stoppage of the train during the peak hour, metro services were affected and trains were delayed,” a Metro spokesperson said.
